摘要

Biogas production plays a critical role in the renewable energy sector, providing a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Derived from the anaerobic digestion of organic feedstocks such as agricultural residues, livestock manure, municipal waste, and sewage sludge, biogas production technologies are diverse and continually advancing. Raw biogas, composed mainly of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), also contains trace gases, including hydrogen sulfide (H2S), ammonia (NH3), and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The presence of VOCs poses significant challenges, leading to equipment corrosion, reduced methane concentration, and hazardous emissions. Removing VOCs is essential for improving biogas quality, ensuring operational efficiency, and meeting environmental regulations. Clean biogas with minimal VOC content can be used in various applications, such as vehicle fuel, combined heat and power systems, and residential heating. This chapter examines different VOC removal technologies, namely adsorption, absorption, membrane separation, and cryogenic condensation, focusing on their principles, practical applications, and effectiveness in optimizing biogas as a clean, renewable energy source. By addressing the complexities associated with VOCs, this chapter provides valuable insights for enhancing the viability and marketability of biogas projects.
