Analysis and Applications of Electromagnetic Bandgap Metasurfaces

Artificial electromagnetic materials, including electromagnetic band gap (EBG) and left-handed material (LHM), exhibit unique electromagnetic properties and thus have attracted much attention in recent years. In this chapter, two bandgap characteristics of the EBG, i.e., surface-wave suppression and in-phase reflectivity have been theoretically elaborated, and the relationship between them is clarified. With these attractive properties, the application of the EBG into various practical engineering problems, including high-speed circuit noise suppression and antenna substrate and superstrate designs have been presented.
