摘要

Modernization has favored the imprint of human activities which cause alarming pollution of the environment. In Senegal, despite the initiative of the “Zero waste” project by His Excellency the President of the Republic led by the UCG (Solid Waste Management Coordination Unit), it is clear that the garbage cans continue to overflow in cities and eco-citizen behaviors are still not taken seriously. This research work wishes to contribute considerably to the waste management system in Senegal. For this, this paper presents an in-depth study on a smart waste management system which aims above all to optimize waste management, the cost of deployment, and maintenance of the infrastructure for Senegal. It highlights the use of two types of bins: a bin for public spaces equipped with LoRa technology, another bin for homes equipped with Wi-Fi technology. The proposed system, named Senegal SET, is based on Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and allows stakeholders to monitor in real-time the filling and geolocation of bins and the optimization of collection rounds. It also allows citizens to locate the bins in public spaces closest to their homes when those in their homes are full. The proposal of a real waste management system prototype, the application implementation and case studies for validation show that the proposed system can efficiently help to optimize the waste management in general by making it easier for citizens to daily manage their waste and by optimizing the economic, material, and personal resources of public services.
