Integrated Learner-Centered Learning Activity Support Service for Learning Information, Learning Notices and Learning Q&A

After COVID-19, the whole world has been changed and especially social service structures have been dramatically changed. However, the online-based non-face-to-face learning environment in K-12 and higher education environment was the biggest changes among other social changes. This situation and changes make the learner-centered learning/educational environment more important and necessary in order to respond to learner’s and teacher’s demands of non-face-to-face learning environment. In particular, while a lot of progress is being made in fields of learning contents and mobile educational devices’ sensors, learning interactions and learning activities between learning contents and learners has no changes compared with learning environment decades ago. In particular, the learning environment provided by a distance university or an online university have lacks of a learner-centered learning activity support service that provides learners to easily access learning contents and learning notices that are provided by a teacher, bulletin boards that are used to communicate between learners and teachers and class information by each subject that is uploaded by a teacher and university government. In a distance university or an online university, learners taking multiple courses must independently access each subject’s bulletin board, notice board and learning information because integrated learner-centered learning information service is not provided by learning management system or learning portal system. In addition, the access to the learning contents and learning notices, bulletin and class information about each subject makes the learner’s discomfort and inconvenience increases in proportion to the number of subjects taken, since a learner has no integrated learner-centered learning information service. This kind of learning situation make learning motivations and learning are remarkably lowered. This study aims to build an efficient learning information support service for learners to easily access each subject’s bulletin board, notice board, class information and learning information. First, for effective learner’s learning notice access and learning contents interactions, the bulletin board, notice board, class information and learning information provided by a distance university or an online university was analyzed. And the characteristics of bulletin board, notice board, class information and learning information and the average number of courses taken by each learner were analyzed for one semester. Finally, with the requirements and analysis results, the proposed integrated learner-centered learning information service were considered and designed, and a learner-centered learning information mobile app was developed and provided to learners. The proposed and developed integrated learner-centered learning information mobile app in this research provides online university learners with an integrated learning information service. Learners can access integrated bulletin board, integrated notice board, integrated class information and integrated learning information on one screen of a smartphone. With this, learners can have feasibility and accessibility of learning information.
