Clinical Applications of Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Studies of Targeted Novel Drug Delivery Systems

The clinical applications of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) studies of nanoparticles are diverse and offer significant advancement in drug delivery and personalized medicine. Researchers can design treatment regimens by utilizing the knowledge gained from PK and PD studies to enhance therapeutic outcomes, and minimize adverse effects, ultimately advancing patient care and overall well-being. Based on preclinical and clinical data, PK-PD modeling can potentially direct formulation design and dosage regimen selection in the development of novel drug delivery systems. This method relates the properties of the physiological system and drug delivery system to the dose of the drug and the physiological response. A schematic representation of PK-PD modeling in the development of nanoparticle-based drug delivery system is depicted in Fig. 5.1.
