Advances in Few-Layered Nanoscale Transition Metal Dichalcogenides in Sensing Application

Developing cost-effective and at the same time advanced sensors has always been a challenging task for sensor designers. The choice of the sensing material determines the performance of the final sensor product as it holds paramount importance in the detection and transduction of the external stimuli in question. This fosters the sensor designers to exploit newly discovered or developed materials for different sensing applications. In this regard, layered or two-dimensional (2D) Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDCs) appear to be the next-generation sensing materials. Considering the myriad applications of these materials, this chapter presents a comprehensive overview of various sensors based on these layered materials. Starting from typical sensor classifications, associated sensing mechanisms and parameters, a brief discussion of different types of sensing implementations is procedurally outlined for each selected sensing material.
