摘要

This chapter continues the story of optical applications by exploring optical emission, namely the development of more efficient and more diverse LEDs. The very property which causes potential trouble for 2D MHPs in photovoltaics, namely the large exciton binding energy which makes it hard to separate electrons and holes, assists in light-emitting applications by making optical recombination more efficient. Several papers are presented which describe methods being used in the ongoing quest for increased efficiency to more fully take advantage of the great promise of these materials for low cost, easily manufacturable LEDs with high efficiency and several other desirable properties.
