摘要

This entry examines the interactions between new populism and plastic waste management. Huge land-based plastic waste emissions routinely end up with significant marine plastic pollution. Marine pollution has direct consequences on aquatic ecosystems, human health, and the fisheries and aquaculture industry. Effective plastic waste management requires the involvement of various entities such as governments, corporations, and citizens. New populistic movements influence the scope and direction of ocean plastic waste management. Populists play an essential role in educating the public and promoting collaboration among different entities.
