New Populism and Its “Anti” Theses

  • V. Bijukumar

摘要

The emerging trend of populist politics determines the destiny of liberal democracies across the world in more destructive ways than in achieving common good. Populism is a democratic pathology, and it poses a threat to political institutions. It is a political response to the crisis of representation, thereby rectifying its infirmities. It has larger impact on liberal democracy and drives it towards illiberal democracy. In this sense, populism is projected as a potential corrective mechanism for liberal democracy and also its destroyer.
