Populism and Its Impact on Foreign Policy
摘要
Rise of populism around the world begets an important question regarding the consequences in a country’s foreign policy. Not much research has been carried out to understand the connection between populism and foreign policy of a country. With populism becoming a global phenomenon, leaders such as Donald Trump, Viktor Orban, and Rodrigo Duterte have entered governments and have influenced international policy formulations of their countries. This entry uses several case studies to understand the implications on international politics due to the global rise of populism. It looks at whether populism will translate into a range of monolithic foreign policy across the world. Different examples analyze populist governments’ foreign policies in their specific geopolitical context.
