Women’s Entrepreneurship in India: A Barometer for International Shifts in Start-Up Activity

The Indian economic system is heavily ingrained in the country’s patriarchal culture. Women are socialized to be housewives and caregivers. Regardless of a woman’s intelligence, education level, or aspirations, society places low expectations on her. In recent years, however, the economic structure in India has begun to shift in a way that benefits women who are economically active. Women in India have a better chance of climbing the corporate ladder if they choose an entrepreneurial path rather than working for a huge company.
