Waste threatens the environment by polluting the air, soil, and water, which has far-reaching consequences for human health and biodiversity. The chapter presents a comprehensive overview of the environmental impacts of waste, including its contribution to climate change, air, water, and soil pollution, and the destruction of habitats and biodiversity. It also critically analyzes current waste management practices and the need for a paradigm shift toward a circular economy. Globally, the most frequent categories of waste are municipal solid, industrial, electronic, hazardous, and medical.
