摘要

Since its invention, plastic has found a lot of applications in human life and has become an inseparable part of our lives owing to its properties. The increase in plastic usage increases the plastic waste generated, occupying large spaces in both landfill sites and water bodies like the sea and oceans. Due to its non-biodegradable nature, it stays in the environment for years together, degrading flora and fauna life. Nowadays, humans have also started consuming plastics in the form of microplastics and Nano plastics, which is mainly because of their non-biodegradable nature. It is high time we react to this and find a possible solution. Reducing plastic usage can be a good solution, but that can reduce waste generation to very minimal percentages. A much better solution can be eliminating the generated waste by converting it into something useful. A finer option is to convert the trash into energy. This work studies the conversion of the generated plastic wastes into fuel, which can be used as a substitute for fossil fuels and petroleum-based fuels. This paper discusses the different chemical recycling techniques of plastic waste, like pyrolysis, hydrogenation, gasification, etc., through which waste plastics are converted into valuable fuel. Thus, the potential of the produced energy to replace the current non-renewable fuels can reduce the exploitation of the environment for fuels and reduce pollution caused by both plastic waste and the burning of fossil fuels.
