A TDOA-Based Optimization Method for Staircase Area Positioning

A positioning method based on the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) algorithm is proposed for the problem of low positioning accuracy of current indoor positioning systems in the staircase area. The method adds a positioning base station above the corner of the staircase and uses the distance difference between the base station and the entrance/exit of the staircase for hyperbolic positioning. Since the staircase area is positioned in the vertical plane, the positioning coordinates of the tag can be obtained by only one pair of hyperbolic surfaces. Using MATLAB simulation, the influence of factors such as the stair angle in the stair area and the deviation from the base station plane on the accuracy of this positioning method is analyzed.
