Array Transducers and Beamforming

In this chapter, the concept of beam pattern is introduced. Also, the parameters of the beam pattern and their interrelationship with the specifications of the transducer used for imaging have been discussed. In the following, the concept of focusing is explained, and it is finished with an introduction to non-adaptive as well as adaptive beamforming algorithms. Detailed explanations of beamforming algorithms, which is the main focus of this book, are presented in Chap.  3 of this book.
