Epitaph of Su Liang’s Wife, Née Ma in the Tang Dynasty

  • Nai Xia

摘要

Based on the Pahlavi-script epitaph of Née Ma, the wife of Tang Dynasty official Su Liang, it is recorded that the couple were both Zoroastrians and Persians. This paper argues that the combination of Chinese and Pahlavi script on the tombstone provides new materials for the study of the spread of Zoroastrianism in Tang Dynasty China. Additionally, the paper discusses issues related to the “Left Shence Army Honorary Grand Generalissimo” mentioned in the Chinese inscription and the birth and death date of Su Liang.
