Evaluation of Influence of Diaphragm Flexibility on the Seismic Response of RCC Buildings with Slab Openings

Diaphragm is a structural member of the lateral load resisting system. In this chapter, rigid diaphragm is compared with semi-rigid diaphragm of 25% and 50% flexibility in a rectangular plan model by providing slab openings. The slab openings around 1–2% is considered in this study with openings at center and corner locations. Response spectrum analysis is carried out using the Etabs 20 version to evaluate seismic parameters. Additionally, shear force, bending moment, and axial force in column were evaluated. The results show that increasing the flexibility changes the structure’s dynamic response. Corner opening of the slab is found to be crucial in all the cases of diaphragm flexibility.
