A Comparative Study on Bond Behavior of Ternary Blended Geopolymer Concrete and Conventional Concrete

Recently, thorough investigations on the mechanical and microstructural properties of geopolymer concrete are conducted but the investigation on its structural aspects are scarce. In the present investigation, an attempt was made to understand the bond behavior of reinforcing bar embedded in the Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete and Geopolymer Concrete (GPC) which is very significant structural aspect. Ambient cured GPC was synthesized from the aluminosilicate binders flyash, GGBS and silica fume. In this study, pullout test was conducted on GPC and OPC with bar diameters of 12 and 16 mm, embedment lengths 2.5D, 5D and full depth according to IS 2770:1967. The influence of bar diameter and embedment length of bar on bond behavior has been reported. The compressive strength for OPC and GPC was maintained constantly 60 MPa for all the testing specimens. It was observed that the bond performance of GPC was better than the OPC. The failure modes and the behavior was similar to OPC. With increase in embedment length and bar diameter the bond strength was decreased for the both OPC and GPC whereas the corresponding slip was increased.
