Effect of Window Glazing Materials on Life Cycle Energy Performance of Building: A Case Study

摘要

The transformation of conventional buildings into exterior glazed buildings is increasing rapidly for its aesthetics look, reduced energy usage, and lesser environmental impact. All types of glazed buildings are not energy-efficient, so careful attention is required to choose the material for building components during the design phase for possible design alterations. To analyse the life cycle energy performance with the use of different glazing materials, the present study attempts to evaluate an existing building energy, carbon emissions, and cost. The existing glass material was replaced with two other type material property (double reflective with low-e glazed and double low-e glazed), and the results were compared to determine the energy saving and less carbon emissive glazing material. The study simulated the energy performance of building over a 30-year period using Revit and Green Building Studio energy simulation software. By analysing the embodied and operational energy of three glass materials, the most suitable glazing is suggested for use and gives the designers to access whole-building energy assessment, enhancing energy effectiveness and ensuring carbon neutrality before construction begins.
