A Conceptual Structured Model for BIM Application Acceleration: The Roles of the Industry

The trend of application of building information modeling (BIM) in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry has shown benefits for projects. The Vietnamese government has published many policies and legal documents to promote the implementation of BIM by construction organizations. However, the adoption of BIM in projects presents a barrier due to the lack of positive BIM attitudes and practices in construction organizations. Furthermore, the authorities face difficulty in identifying the issues for which the construction organizations require assistance. The content analysis technique was adopted to collect and analyze data from previous studies. This study proposes a conceptual model to accelerate BIM adoption toward management and industry roles. The model consists of seven aspects that the industry should manage: education, sharing, benchmarking, self-assessment, BIM awareness, BIM benefits, and BIM acceleration platform. The research results are expected to be useful for industry leaders to promote BIM applications in construction.
