摘要

In the pavement, critical distress, i.e., cracks, rutting, potholes, and lateral shear failure at the edge are often caused by underlying soil with poor quality and impact of vehicle load. To avoid or reduce the aforementioned defects, many methods have been proposed to improve the pavement foundation. Nevertheless, their performance should be demonstrated under various geological conditions, which motivates the present study to design and conduct full-scale field experiments in Vietnam focusing on two advanced methods including soil bag, and multi-axis geogrid. Consequently, the initial evaluation of the performance of the two above methods in improving the pavement foundation is presented with a comparison with the conventional design approach. In particular, four important factors are considered, i.e., not only the cost, and construction time but also the elastic modulus and settlement on the pavement surface.
