Diabetes in Cross-Cultural Perspective

This chapter provides a systemic comprehensive review of the causes, symptoms, treatments, and management of diabetes across cultures. The review shows some overlaps in the cultural beliefs. Diabetes can be caused by factors related to genetics, obesity, lack of physical activity, and mental illness. Most studies have found that symptoms of diabetes are thirst, vision problems, dizziness, joint problems, and headaches. In addition, studies have shown that diabetes can be treated by medication, exercise, and healthy diet.
