This chapter highlights the objectives, general themes, and theoretical drive behind this book. It discusses the relationship between culture and illness with a focus on the Kleinman explanatory model of illness and how it can be used to improve healthcare services. In addition, the chapter discusses the methodological development in studying the cultural beliefs of illnesses.
