摘要

Sanya Bay beach, located in the south of Hainan Island, China, is famous as a tourist destination for its beautiful sandy beach. Since 2002, the east section of the beach experienced severe erosion and shoreline retreat due to tourism development and construction. In order to restore the beach, nourishment project was carried out in 2015. Fixed beach profile measurements were conducted for six times during 2015–2017, and surface sediments were sampled at Mean High Water (MHW), Mean Sea Level (MSL), and −2 m water depth positions of the profile for sediment grain size analysis for post-nourishment monitoring. The monitoring results show that after the implementation of the beach nourishment project, the extent of the beach expanded. The borrowed sediment has been slowly transported to the position below −2 m water depth.
