Load Frequency Control of a Two Area Power System Using Different Optimization Techniques

This paper presents a comparison between Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Horse Herd Optimization (HHO) techniques used for Load Frequency Control (LFC) of two area power systems. The main objective of this work is to tune the parameters of a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller used in LFC of a two area power system. The performance of LFC is evaluated based on the Integral of Time weighted Absolute Error (ITAE) criterion, under different magnitudes of disturbances at different time intervals. The results of this study demonstrate that HHO is a more effective optimization technique than PSO for tuning the PID parameters in LFC.
