Taper Fiber-Based SPR Sensor

In this chapter, the taper fiber optic sensor is discussed in terms of geometrical optics theory. Simulation results must be correlated with taper fiber sensor models for a complete analysis. The angle and length of the taper were determined after the importance of taper radii was emphasized. We have calculated the spread and narrowing of the model. The sensing and transmitting processes rely heavily on the taper angle. The degree of taper is based on the sensing length and the core radii. There is barely any taper. As the taper radius decreases, the taper ratio grows. As the incidence angle grows closer to the critical angle, the penetration depth and sensitivity also grow. Penetration depth is a key factor in sensing capacity and improves as the wavelength of operation decreases. The maximum propagation constant occurs at the critical angle, and it is zero at 90°. Above the crucial angle, it drops even further. Between the critical angle and 90°, the propagation constant falls with wavelength.
