Benedict J[ohn] Tria KERVLIET, one of the foremost American political scientists, is a specialist on the comparative politics of Asia and Southeast Asia. Concerned for the man-in-the-street, his research and studies cover agrarian politics, state-society relations, civil society, and everyday politics, and he has worked on projects including agricultural collectivization and de-collectivization in northern Vietnam, and local reactions to national policies in the Philippines as well as in Vietnam.
