FEITH, Herbert (1930–2001)

Herbert (Herb) Feith was the founder of Indonesian studies in Australia, and a distinguished student of the politics of modern Indonesia (post-1945), a community and peace activist, a champion of human rights, and above all, a teacher. Trained as a political scientist, and following a career as an academic, he decided to be an active and ardent activist against injustices, abuses, all types of discrimination, and ever-striving for peace, resolution of conflict, and “to make the whole world a better place” (Purdey 2011a).
