Hla Myint (1920–2017)

Hla Myint was a Myanmar development and welfare economist known for his pioneering ideas, the most renowned of which was his emphasis on export orientation as an engine of economic growth long before it was acknowledged as such. Though generally overlooked in his home country of Myanmar (Burma until 1989), he carved an academic career that had a significant influence in the international arena in particular in the underdeveloped countries of the Third World.
