摘要

In the recent years, cognitive dysfunction and neuropathological diseases are significant public health concerns, and such neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs), including anxiety, depression dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, seizures and ischaemic stroke disorders, can be severely functionally crippling as well as represent the major global cause of death. Furthermore, the lack of effective therapeutic alternatives creates challenges in minimizing the neuronal damages brought by the NDDs. There is a surge of interest in herbal medications, which include phytochemical components that may have long-term health promoting or therapeutic effects. Neural problems have traditionally been treated with herbal medication, and several of them have been demonstrated to have antioxidant and/or anti-inflammatory effects, now being explored to have neuroprotective potentials against central nervous system disorders. This chapter discusses the significance of phytochemicals for neuroprotective therapeutic potentials and other related disorders.
