The Controversy Surrounding Drugs Against Neurodegenerative Disorders: Benefit or Harm?

The global healthcare system and public health are burdened by Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s diseases. Due to their increasing prevalence and incapacity, extensive research has been done to develop appropriate treatments. Pharmacological interventions to slow or stop neurodegeneration have garnered interest, but their benefits and risks are still debated. This academic review examines the consequences of neurodegenerative disease treatments from many perspectives. Drug treatments and drug use are the main topics of discussion. Many feel that neurodegenerative drugs can slow disease progression, improve cognitive function, and improve quality of life. Clinical investigations suggest these medicines reduce symptoms and delay functional decline. Neuroprotective medications can also change disease processes. These perspectives emphasise the importance of early diagnosis and pharmaceutical treatment. Sceptics doubt the efficacy and safety of neurodegenerative disease medicines. Some contend that clinical research’s small results may not necessarily benefit patients. These drugs also have side effects. These adverse events may be modest or severe. Due to financial strain on healthcare systems, excessive treatment costs may prohibit many from receiving it. The treatment for neurodegenerative diseases is outlined in this chapter. Tetrabenazine, L-DOPA/Levodopa, donepezil, and dopamine modulators are examples. It investigates the processes by which medications achieve their effects, as well as the molecular basis of action, most prescribed drug, therapeutic role, clinical data, and common side effects.
