Technology and Video Surveillance in Educational Spaces: A Path Towards Citizen Security

The degree of acceptance of video cameras for the prevention of violence and crime in educational spaces is examined through a descriptive perception study using cross-sectional quantitative data. The main reasons for conducting this analysis are related to the high perception of insecurity in the eastern region of the city of Puebla, México. The purpose of this research is to address the following question: What is the level of acceptance of video cameras for the prevention of violence and crime in educational spaces? In this order of ideas, the pros and cons of the use of technology in citizen security are explored. After the research findings, it can be concluded that the young students of the upper secondary level of private institutions in the city of Puebla are not capable of recognizing the 53 human rights established in the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, despite this is if they can deduce the importance of the right to the protection of personal data and the inviolability of private communications, since the use of technology is imminent for them, so they would be willing to consent to the government authority taking possession of the recordings of the videos that are carried out in the educational spaces to feel more secure.
