Welding/Joining of High Entropy Alloys

Welding, a fundamental process in the fabrication of materials, joins components to form cohesive structures. The unique compositions and microstructures of high-entropy alloys, on the other hand, introduce complexities that necessitate specialized welding techniques. The intricate connection among the composition, crystal structures, and thermodynamic properties of multiple elements within HEAs demand novel techniques to ensure strong welds, maintain material integrity, and exploit the enhanced properties of these alloys. Researchers and practitioners are interested in learning more about the complexities of phase stability, solidification behavior, and microstructural evolution during the welding process particularly with HEAs. This chapter is dedicated to the exploration of welding strategies that optimize joint quality, minimize defects, produce different types of welds (similar and dissimilar), and unlock the full potential of high-entropy alloys in welded structures.
