Introduction

The field of metallurgy and materials science is strongly founded on four major pillars namely, structural materials, functional materials, computational materials engineering and process metallurgy. Each of these pillars are stand-alone serve as a field of research. However certain materials not only interrelate these pillars but also complement their needs due to exciting properties in them. Some of these materials include carbon nano-tubes, graphene, steels and recently discovered high entropy alloys (HEAs).
