Immunobiology of Lung Cancer

Lung cancer still has a bad prognosis, despite a reducing incidence. The absence of early detection and the recent advancements in targeted cancer therapy are likely to blame. A number of important immune cells, including as CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells, are involved in the pathogenesis of lung cancer. Growing knowledge about these cells points to a highly intricate and interconnected network of their participation in each stage of lung cancer. The types and quantities of immune cells influence prognosis and may present a chance for clinical therapeutic applications. However, there is still much to learn about how immune cells are involved in lung cancer and the underlying mechanisms. To better understand lung carcinogenesis and provide new therapeutic strategies for the management of patients with more specific and selective lung cancer, research focusing on the function of immune cells is needed.
