Clinical Anatomy of the Upper Face for Filler Injection

In the upper face, the hairline and eyebrows form demarcations superior and inferior to the forehead, respectively. An undulated forehead may give an aging impression; therefore, fat grafting and filler injection are often used as cosmetic treatments to improve the uneven surface of the forehead into a convex and smooth one. Cosmetic filler injections are often used to create a smooth and convex curvature from the trichion to the eyebrow (Fig. 3.1). In contrast to the dolichocephalic-type skull predominant in Caucasian populations, the brachycephalic-type skull is common in Asian populations. A smooth and convex forehead allows the entire face to look smaller and three dimensional rather than flat, which satisfies the aesthetic demand of Asian populations.
