Exploring Corporate Social Responsibility Research in the Era of Sustainable Development Goals in Malaysia

The purpose of this study is to highlight how corporate social responsibilityCorporate social responsibility (CSR) is perceived in Malaysian higher education institutionsHigher education institutions (HEIs), and how it can contribute to sustainabilitySustainability. The study was qualitativeQualitative, utilizing semi-structured, in-depth interviewsInterviews with 11 stakeholdersStakeholder, comprising top-level management staff, academicians, and support staff from four public universitiesUniversities in MalaysiaMalaysia. The views of the stakeholderStakeholder group were analysed to identify the contribution of CSR programmes to HEIs’ green development. The findings revealed that CSR engagements have an impact on sustainabilitySustainability at the HEIs. Since the research subjects in this study were Malaysians, different findings may be obtained when the research subjects are from the neighbouring countries in the ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) region. Successful implementation of CSR programmes may raise ecologicalEcological behaviour behaviourBehaviours ideology throughout HEIs. This study contributes to a greater understandingUnderstanding of the role of CSR programmes in contributing to the SDGs at HEIs and to the implementation of green campusGreen campus.
