A Cluster-Based Routing Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks-Based IoT System

A cluster-based routing protocol for Internet of Things (IoT) network which is based on wireless sensor networks has been proposed in this paper. The basic clustering approach is adopted from the well-known Hybrid Energy Efficient Distributed (HEED) clustering protocol. This work mainly focuses on the data forwarding model through which data originated at source node can reach the base station, which is the destination. The intermediate sensor nodes are considered to be static in nature. Achieving energy efficiency being the primary objective, the protocol follows a cluster-based hierarchical data delivery model. The proposed protocol achieves energy efficiency. Simulation results depicting the performance of the proposed protocol have been reported. Future scopes of the work have also been outlined.
