Recognizing Raga of Indian Classical Songs Using Regular Expressions

Computational musicology deals with interdisciplinary study between music and computer science. This paper describes the research work exploring the study about representing Indian ragas in the form of regular expressions and then recognition of raga of the given classical Hindi and Marathi songs. It takes two major inputs such as standard notations for typical Ragas and database of Indian Classical Musical Songs. The approach builds the regular expression for all Ragas in the database and then match the pattern with the sequence of each singing part notation in the database. This approach successfully recognizes the raga of the inputted Indian Classical songs. The songs based on multiple Ragas simultaneously have not been taken into consideration by this approach.
