摘要

Additive manufacturing (AM) is one of the prominent technologies in the current scenario of sophisticated configurations and nanotechnology is the pathway which grants the science behind the manufacturing of complex shapes by manipulating matter on an atomic or nano-scale. Interdisciplinary interaction of both these domains can generate a broad range of material manufacturing scope for new and innovative applications in fabrication industry. Nanomaterials can facilitate the fabrication process and improve the bulk properties of complicated structures and complex shapes. This article provides the concepts of combining nanotechnology with additive manufacturing for generating novel methodologies in materials manufacturing by improving mechanical, electrical, biological and bulk properties. There is a lot of interest in the integration of nanomaterials with additive manufacturing for developing new applications and making advanced technologies. This article also incorporates carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in various AM techniques, a possible futuristic material in biomedical domain that is known by its versatile characteristics of high biocompatibility and bio-mimetic properties in host structures. Thus, CNT-based reinforcement applications in additive manufacturing technique possess multiple functionalities.
