The Four Elements of Rural Settlement Form

Cultural landscapes in Asia are influenced by and imbued with value systems and abstract frameworks, such as cosmology, geomancy and Feng Shui, animism, as well as traditional, technological and economic systems. By combining the study of land-scape morphology with an understanding of these systems, this chapter contributes to the development of Chinese morphological research from a broad cultural context.
