摘要

The noncompliance of safety helmet is one of the most mentioned issues at the construction site, alongside the issue of illegal employment of the labour workers. Due to the position of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) being at the bottom of the hierarchy of control and the great demands on construction sites, management often neglects it. This study aims to develop the framework of safety helmet compliance detection and employees tracking system by using Quick Response QR) code technology. The OSHA 1994 and Building Operations and Work of Engineering Construction Safety) Regulations 1986 (BOWEC) were the focus in developing the framework of this study as it provides the requirements of safety helmets as well as the legal information of the workers. The tracking tool could store and track the safety helmets and employees’ information via a synchronized database. The validation was conducted involving two safety experts in the construction sector. Based on a case study carried out at the selected construction site, the information of the employees, the safety helmet expiry date, and the CIDB green card license were successfully tracked and appeared on the screen of the application system right after the QR code had been scanned. Finally, after the process of scanning and monitoring the employee’s information, the end-user was able to access the actual database on the computer system to check on any updates or changes made during the monitoring process around the construction site. Most experts were satisfied with the tool based on the responses to all questions in the system usability scale.
