Head Injury During Heading of Two Types of Sepak Takraw Balls: Analytical Approach
摘要
Sepak takraw is a popular game in Southeast Asia. Repetitive takraw ball heading during an intensive training session will lead to a concussion. Peak linear acceleration (PLA) is one of the kinematic-based head injury predictors that is widely used to predict concussion. The primary aim of this study is to investigate the dynamic properties (i.e. coefficient of restitution (e), contact time (ΔT), stiffness (k), and damping coefficient (c)) of two takraw balls: GE511 and MT908 based on drop ball test in three heights (i.e. 2.5, 7.0, and 11.5 m). The properties are then used in a mathematical model used in soccer balls to determine PLA. The value pattern of e and ΔT follows the literature except in one study. The value of PLA for MT908 is greater than MT511, and both balls exceed the 10 g trigger threshold for subconcussive. These discoveries will aid the determination of the concussion probability, as well as the development of modern takraw balls and head protectors.
