Design and Development of a Solar-Based Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging System
摘要
A new era of automobiles is upon us, with the industry rapidly transitioning from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles (EVs). The demand for EVs is growing, which has led to an increase in charging stations. Recently, wireless power transmission (WPT) technology has developed rapidly so the power ranges from milli-watts to kilo-watts, power transmission distances extend from millimeters to hundreds of millimeters, and load efficiencies exceed 90%. With this advancement, wireless power transmission (WPT) becomes very popular for deploying EV charging during both static and dynamic charging situations. This work proposes a design and implementation of a solar-based wireless EV battery charger where the objective is to charge a vehicle without connecting any wire through inductive coupling by simply parking of a car at the charging station. This study illustrates the applicability of WPT field technology for wireless charging of EV batteries in terms of charging time, range, and cost. The proposed charging system’s performance is evaluated using black box and unit testing. Furthermore, the power efficiency of wireless charging systems is evaluated, with the conclusion that this charging outperforms wired charging.
