摘要

This chapter presents the chemical properties of biomass. An overview of the main types of biomasses found and examples are discussed. The chemical composition of lignocellulosic and non-lignocellulosic biomass and the mean values of the components in each type of biomass are presented. The reader will also get brief information on factors that interfere with the chemical composition of biomass. Finally, synthesis and conclusions about the theme are presented.
