Anaesthesia and Perioperative Concerns in Total Laryngectomy

Total laryngectomy is a major surgery in the field of head and neck cancer surgeries and has specific perioperative anaesthetic implications and postoperative rehabilitation challenges. An anaesthetist usually doubles up as a perioperative physician and thus should be well versed in the basic surgical details and treatment modalities in laryngeal cancers, airway concerns, anaesthetic management and basic postoperative care. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the main anaesthetic concerns in total laryngectomy with specific focus on perioperative care and postoperative rehabilitation.
