Carcinoma Buccal Mucosa with Trismus Posted for Hemimandibulectomy and Free Flap Reconstruction

A 65-year-old man, chronic smoker (10–12 bidis per day for the last 50 years) and tobacco chewer for the last 45 years, came with the symptoms of ulcer in the right cheek for the last 5 months. It was non-traumatic insidious in onset, gradually progressive, and painless lesion initially. Now the patient has pain in that area for the last 2 months. There has been decrease in the size of mouth opening in the last 2 months. Now the patient is unable to open his mouth to admit even 1 finger between the upper and lower teeth. He has been on liquid diet for the past 1 month and has lost around 5 kg weight. The patient presented to surgical oncology OPD and was referred to pre-anaesthesia check-up clinic as he was planned for right hemimandibulectomy with right modified neck dissection and free flap reconstruction.
