Measurement of Parameters for Performance Evaluation of Tillage Implements

This chapter is subdivided into two parts: (i) testing of tillage implements and (ii) instrumentation for measurement of tillage performance parameters. In the first part, performance parameters along with the procedure to test the performance of a few tillage implements have been explained. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Regional Network for Agricultural Machinery (RNAM) are the main test codes used for this purpose. In the second part, various instrumentation techniques used to measure the parameters required for the performance evaluation of tillage implements have been discussed. The main focus has been given to draft, wheel slip, and torque measurements as they influence the field capacity of the implement and fuel consumption of the power source.
