Rotary Tillage Implements

Rotary tillage is carried out by active tillage implements where the working elements are powered, unlike the moldboard plow, disk plow, and cultivator. The most commonly used rotary tillage implements are tractor-drawn rotavators and power tiller-drawn rota-tillers. In this chapter, the cutting trajectory of the rotary cutting blade has been explained with all the angles associated with it. The profile of soil cut sections in different types of rotary tillage operation has been explained with a suitable diagram. The design of different components of a rotavator and a single acting powered disk harrow has been discussed along with the estimation of power requirement for carrying out tillage with these implements. At the end, numerical problems are solved for a better understanding of these designs.
