Carbon Dots in Bacterial Sensing

The safety and health of humans are seriously threatened by the deadly diseases caused by the pathogenic bacteria. Detection of the pathogen that can cause such form of deadly diseases seems very important for selecting the proper treatment measures. Nanoparticles have great potential for the prevention and treatment of infectious illnesses, according to recent studies on their usage as imaging and detecting agents. Carbon dots have drawn much interest as individual nanoparticles because of their remarkable biomedical applications. As a result, carbon dots are emerging as the best options for imaging and detecting harmful bacteria. This chapter reviews the recent advancements in carbon dots research for detecting pathogenic bacteria by various sensing mechanisms. We also look at carbon dots’ antibacterial qualities, which provide us with both, i.e., diagnosis and therapy promising. Here, we would set the foundation and outline the commercial application possibilities of these carbon dots in an actual clinical environment. Future directions in this area and the difficulties with using carbon dots to monitor harmful microorganisms are also discussed.
